Highlights:

It was held in Gita Bayu Resort, Balakong. It is a nice secluded private resort with an authentic Balinese touch surrounded by a forest reserve. The air is clean ,cooling ,refreshing and is a perfect escapade from the hustle bustle life.

There were many interesting interpretive reading speeches ranging from Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Marc Anthony to Abraham Lincoln.

There were few interesting roasting speeches by the Roastmaster.

We re-visited Hotel Puri again this year for this wonderful joint meeting with the Friendship Toastmasters Club (FTMC) . FTMC is an established club from Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, Jalan Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur and currently lead by President Zaiton Zainal Abidin.

It was a big crowd this time in this Break free and Breakaway Program . (30+ people)

Many family members of the FTMC were present because it was more like a weekend club holiday trip to the historical Malacca City. That made the atmosphere of the meeting fun, warm and entertaining with performances and games.

Interview With William Lee on the recent Humorous Speech Contest

Hello fellow Toastmasters,

Our club has just sent a few members to represent Malacca Toastmasters Club to the area level Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest last Sunday (5 Sept 10) in Merlimau Polytechnic. I managed to have a quick chat with one of the members William about his experience in the Area Level contest.

William is our youngest member in the Malacca Toastmasters family. 2 months old. He's working in a very reputable fast moving consumable goods company (FMCG) in Malacca and a very enthusiastic and determined Toastmaster member. Here's some write up and short interview from one of our club representative, William Lee.

Clarence : Being the newest Malacca Toastmasters member, can you describe what have you learned in Toastmasters Club Humorous Speech Contest in such a short period of time?

William: Being the first time as contestant and representing club in Humorous Contest, I feel nervous and huge responsibilities on my shoulder. The feeling is totally different from the contest among club members because we know each other and I joined the contest for fun. Although I had lost the contest, I enjoyed myself watching other contestant from other club and meeting new friends. I had made a promised to myself to further improve my public speaking skills and be back to the contest near years. My wish from now is to be the top ten contestants in Division Contest. Even if it takes years, I want to complete the wish.

Clarence: Apart from learning public speaking and leadership skills, Toastmasters is also about having fun and getting to know other people right?Can you share some experience together with other club members after the contest ?

William: After the contest finished, I had lunch at Bukit Baru food court with Joshua, Melvin and Eng Suan. We get to know each other better especially my new friend from JB, Eng Suan. We shared lots things regarding Toastmasters and personal life. After so many years ordering Barley “Kosong”, Joshua just realized that his always have 2 straws in his cup because that is one of the ways to differentiate between Barley and Barley “Kosong”. “Kosong” mean no sugar. It more cost effective to put two straws at Barley “Kosong” because majority of customer drink normal Barley.

Clarence: OOh.. i didn't notice about the way to differentiate Barley kosong either. @_@

At night, I think it also my virgin experience for “Buka Puasa” together with my Muslim friends at Zen Café Dataran Pahlawan. I, Melvin, Joshua, Eng Suan were joined Azizah, Adilin and Nadhirah. They waited impatiently for the “Buka Puasa” time. We took lots of pictures of ourselves and the foods. We got 10% discount from the owner of Zen Café (RM 18 savings). Thank you Miss Han for the generosity, we also got free “Air Sirap”. Miss Han is the owner of of Zen Café and Secret Recipes outlet at Melaka Raya, Mahkota Parade, Tesco Peringgit, Tesco Cheng and Jusco Air Keroh. I would like to propose Zen Café and Secret Recipe as our F&B partner so that we can get discount whenever show our Toastmaster Card. If everyone agrees, I will talk to Miss Han, we all love discounts and savings.

Another exciting updates from the Malacca Toastmasters Club. We have just organized the Malacca Toastmasters Club Installation Night at Seafearer's Klebang Beach last Saturday 21- Aug 2010. The theme for the night: Hawaiian Night ;)

The restaurant is facing the Straits of Malacca. It has a very wonderful evening view with the soothing sea breeze.

The installation night went very well. We had many good jokes and table topics for entertainment. The battle between the European and the English seafarers to settle down in the sacred land of Hawaii. A very close and exciting battle I would say.

We had singing Hula guy as well. Oh yes, not to forget the coconut milk and the priest's instrument joke. Only those who attend will know. *grin* Overall, I believe everyone had a really good time.

The Malacca Toastmasters Humorous and Speech Evaluation contest was held on Thursday night at 19th Aug 2010 at Semabok Inn, Melaka.

One of the main purpose of this contest is to provide a platform for new and existing Toastmasters members to discover and polish their public speaking skills in a humorous and analytical way. There are two parts.

Asian Football Confederation Joint meeting.

The joy of Toastmastering..the opportunity to make friends with all walks of life..the opportunity to learn and exchange cultures.. the opportunity to share and the best of all.. have fun together.

This was exactly how I felt when I attended the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Joint Meeting in Hotel Puri located along the historical Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. Who are these AFC guys anyway? Imagine watching a football match between Thailand and Malaysia. Imagine seeing all the players scattered around the field, chasing the ball. The referee running around ,observing the player while blowing the whistles when there's any fouls committed. The game was spectacular and the crescendo of the crowd was overwhelming.

But dear readers, think again..who brought this match together? Who arranged the venue of the match? Who decides which country will play against with? Who organized the training for the grassroots? Who provided the facilities for the team? Who settled all the international legal stuff? These are the men behind the scene of the Asian Football. AFC. It's our pleasure meeting them.

The joint meeting was an out of the ordinary. It's a night without protocol. Where anything goes.

There was no project speeches.No table topics. No evaluators.
But, there's performances and games to keep us entertained. People setting themselves loose. Oh my God. If you're not there, you've really missed the chance of your life time!. A few AFC club members sang a songs from their homeland. This was accompanied by the sounds of guitars and violin was mesmerizing and gentle to the ears , reminiscing their homeland.

Apart from that, there were interesting activities such as yoga exercises lead by two beautiful ladies. :P A professional yoga instructor and her "assistant" to be exact. Thank you very much. All the singles and married couples will thank you for sharing the "secrets" to create a spark which has died out on intimacy. That was a hell of a move :P Everyone laughed non stopped.

But we have our own imported AFC member from Philipines. It's an awesome jamming session not to be missed. Awesome and talented guitarist and piano player. We had some non paid sessions after the meeting watching him play around with his talented fingers on the grand piano.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable session. It's not a very often opportunity to get together and learn in a very fun and extra ordinary ambiance in Puri Hotel. The knowledge and experience gathered during that time was priceless. I'll keep you posted for any future joint meetings. Have fun and learn. Signing off.

Well the Toastmaster's of the evening (TOE) was no other than the wise and senior member of the club DTM Shiv. Thanks to her, the whole meeting was entertaining and informative, with the carefully selected speakers and role players.

CC Mak seen walking into the middle of the room before he started to "SELL" his talk. Very inspiring and motivating. After his speech , everyone was so fired up to sell something. :P He has successfully applied one of the fundamental sales principle in the speech which is..."SELLING is a transfer of feeling". Those who attended would definitely understand that feeling. The passion..yeah.

What is Mother's Day and May-day all about..

TM Jenny confidently telling the audience that age of 55 years old is still toooo young to retire..the message is work while you still can.Very inspiring even for youngsters like me. :)

Dr Soe Win's speech was also brilliant. He was very persuasive in convincing the audience on how to handle conflict through his vast working experience as a Captain. But, really sorry about the absence of photos. Apparently he was quite excited with his movements until I fail to capture a still shot. :P Apologies.

Well , what was written here was just a tip of the iceberg. I'm sure all the guest learned many important and interesting points which empowers them personally and improve their confidence to speak. Curious to know what are they? Join us at the next meeting. Cheers!

TM Education Meeting @ Edaran Sumber

Hei there! As mentioned by Melvin earlier, we had an education meeting last Thursday..a special one indeed.

Here are some quickie updates:

Location: Sumber Learning Center (1st Floot)

It was 730pm. Everyone waited downstairs at Popular bookstore.The door way leading to Edaran Sumber learning center was still locked. Melvin, KP Lai , Azizah and myself anxiously waited for Mak to open the pad lock.

Rumors spread like H1N1. Some said the venue was changed last minute through a message from the Blackberry. Some said the meeting was cancelled. Some said the other members couldn't find the place. Anyway we were happily discussing about where the next meeting will be...DURIAN FARM!! While waiting Mr President Joshua to do his side parking opposite the center.

Mak finally arrived. He was a bit late due to some unforeseen circumstances. We started at 810pm slightly behind schedule. OMG..

The TOE was Toastmaster (TM) Jenny Ng.. her first time. And she even brought her lovely daughter as a guest.... to support her .COOL!!!!!

There were 2 guests that night.

Anyway, there 's four interesting and memorable Project Speeches specially lined up on that Thursday night.

1.Money Is Very Important by TM Shima Ismail. Evaluated by TM Clarence (that's me)

Highlights:

Very interesting and entertaining speech by her. Her opening was superb!! She grabbed the whole floors attention by flashing MONEY!!!!! bundles of new crispy RM50 banknotes.. OMG.

2.How to build confidence confidently by TM KP Lai Evaluated by CL Jane Yeo

Highlights:

His 3 steps to build confidence was brilliant. It will definitely make any William Hung transform to be as confident as Austin Powers in the Spy Who Shagged Me!! :P

3.Who am I? ? by TM Sharon Chiang Evaluated by CC Ahmad Yusof.

Highlights:

No, it was not about Jacky Chan. It was about something greater..Sharon provoked the audience to think about who was she really talking about in a very unexpected twist. The speech also marked her accomplishment as a Competent Communicator (CC). Well done , Sharon. You were AWESOME!!!!

4.Finding New Members For Your Club by CC Melvin Chan.

Highlights:

Melvin successfully delivered a 15 minute speech on how to build a strong and healthy Toastmaster's club. He blended all his wits and detailed info in it to deliver the maximum impact ...BANG! Right into the head. A speeched not to be missed. Humorous and informative.

The General Evaluation took placed. The general evaluator is none other than our beautiful CC Ruby Yong. Her task is to evaluate the meeting in general.

Later,the project evaluators presented their evaluation of their respected project speeches.

Mak presented the Time keeper report for the speech timings.

Azizah who sat on one corner listening intently to all the verbal crutches like " ah ah ,ers, so ," and etc during the whole session presented her report.

The Mr President Joshua Ling congratulated all those new achievers.

April Fool - Marshaled

When the gorgeous, bootilicious, super hot, beautiful , charming and sexy vixen, Lena Foo is the TOE, there's always many many Guests.

i am sure you know why... no need for me the repeat. * It's getting hot here * :p

There was a meeting on 1st of April, and that's not April Fool. Fool or not Fool, you are a fool for not coming on April Fool.

Few days and few hours before the meeting, Lena had problems getting the Agenda done, she was resourceful by calling and making sure the roles are all taken up by either replacements or non replacement.

Before the meeting, we had a few surprises.

Robert Ong , a ex-Toastmaster of our club arrived out of the blue moon.
Kamala Nair, ACS, CL, oh i missed her so much , too arrived out of the blue moon.
She was MIA for sometime.

The meeting started slightly late because we just realized a few importing things, the Role Cards, The Role Player Folders and even the Attendance book was not ready... sigh.. Jenny and I had to spend a few minutes sorting up the stuff.

Normally, SAA was to be blamed, however, due to a series of unfortunate events, the SAA has some personal matter to catch up on... There goes the SAA...

Lena started the meeting with her sexy and charming voice... just like a Siren, the mystical being, memorizing everyone with her voice.

Sooner than i realized that i the time is passing by like the F1 driven by Kimi Raikkonen, project speeches had started.

We had 3 speakers,

Dr Soe Win, TM shared his adventure on sea with us, the sea monster threatening to drown the ship, being a sailor on the ship, he survived the onslaught and was alive to share with us the new adventures of

Dr Soe Win~ The Modern Sinbad.

Sharon Chiang, TM shared with us how inexpensive toastmasters is, is only freaking RM 1.30 per day !!!

Even Jusco JJ Day also kalah....lol

Azizah Abu Hassan, ACB CL started her speech by imitating c~~hicken~~ Rooster's "Cocka-doodle-doo" !!!

and she moved on to describe her crocodile hunter's trip.

After the project speeches, it was time for some humor, DTM Shivcharan Kaur was there to humor us with some jokes on relationship... We had a good laugh.

She did a 7 minutes speech project and was followed up by the Table topic Session.

Lai Kim Piew, TM marshaled the whole session flawlessly.

We had 5ive table topic speakers and they were given some short stories on crazy ideas or scenarios.

It was really funny. Haha, now laugh....

General Evaluation was next and Ruby, CC was there to marshaled the whole general evaluation.

Project Evaluators was first,

Table Topic Evaluators was next, ME, and i did a speedy evaluation for 5 speakers in a record time of 55 seconds, beat that Raikkonen !!!

Grammarian was marshaled by Joshua Ling How Gin, ACB, CL.

Time keeper marshaled by Jenny Ng, TM.

Mak Chee Kin, CC, CL was the Ah Countant and my name was not mentioned which means i was perfect? Not quite, he did not noticed my opening gambit when i was the SAA.

The meeting ended slightly later than usual and the the club EXCOs had the last meeting before everyone call it a night.

Just recently, on the 18th of March, we had another Toastmasters Session with 3 Guests.

Mak Chee Kin, CC , CL was the Toastmaster of the Day and we had 3 project speeches.

They did a fantastic job and their speeches was captivating and fun to hear too.

I on the other hand, was not feeling very well as i have phlegm crawling at the back of my throat.

Talking was very difficult for me.

Henry Goh, CC did the most remarkable thing, he did a humorous session without any notes! WOW!

Shima Ismail TM, was the Table Topic Master of the day. She gave some of the best and most mind blogging topics, a few of them have problem with the topics.

After that was my turn, as the General Evaluator. As usual, i do not do any evaluation on my own, i have role players to help me with. They are:

If i were given 1 whole day to live. What will i do ?

Lets analyze the topic. Seriously.

What's the reason i was given a whole day to live, after some thoughts, there are only a few...

there are:

Final last stage in fighting a cancer- Most probably lying in bed, groaning in pain....
Committed some crime, about to be executed in 24 hours. Most probably behind bars in jail....
Hostage for ransom in 24 hours, no money no life. Most likely under watchful eye of whoever they were.
End of the world in 24 hours. Probably everyone has the same 24 hours.

Given the possibilities that i was given 24 hours, i would probably break all rules, law, regulations known to humanity, if my movements were restricted, all i can do is sleep for the next 24 hours.

Anyway, the Area A1 Contest was held in ALAM on the 13th of March 2010.

2 representatives from 3 clubs, namely,

ALAM Toastmasters Club,
Farmosa Toastmasters Club
Malacca Toastmasters Club

bravely battered against each other, fighting for survival.

On the day of the contest itself, which was supposed to start @ 2pm sharp, delayed all the way to 2:45pm.

The delay was well explainable due to a road accident along the way to the venue.

Some idiots managed to crash into each other in a traditional head on collision.

Anyway, the delay was necessary to await for a contestant to arrive. He was the first contestant too.

I was fetched by my club members in a car pool.

Too Many Cooks Spoil the soup or broth

Wow.. and relieved.

The Club level International Speech and Table Topics Contest was over, finally .

Winners are.... wait.. read on to know more about the winners. :D

Weeks before the actual contest, the role players was up, contestants was up.

Forms printed, orders was placed for the trophies, certificates was printed, in a nut shell

We are ready !

Well.... Not quite .... :(

Few days and even a few hours before the actual contest, there was alot of dramas.

~Drama unfolds ~

Our beloved SAA who was supposed to William, TM , couldn't make it because of some work commitment.

Fortunately, Andrea Finta, TM agreed to help out with the SAA role and i was delighted as the problem was solved.

Thanks Andrea for helping me out !!

Soon, problems emerged out of nowhere.

The original TOE, Kamala Nair, ACS, CL couldn't make it due to some personal matters and i had to find a replacement.

Again, Lady Luck was with me, Jane Yeo, CL volunteered to help out and i was saved again.

I thought this must be the end of my misery and yet again, i was wrong.

Everything was set to go, i printed the agenda 9 hours before the actual contest, thinking that there couldn't be any more unexpected misfortune falling on me, and a call came.

~4 hours before the contest~

The Chief Judge, Azizah Abu Hassan, ACB, CL couldn't make it due to an urgent matter.

She was excused and i had to find the replacement for the Chief Judge !

I called Mak, CC, CL and he said he may be late. I couldn't risk for the Chief Judge being late,

therefore, i called the second person in the list, Ram, CTM. He couldn't make it to the contest due to some work. Argh ... i was frustrated, i couldn't find anyone !

In the end i called up Ariff, CC from Farmosa Toastmasters Club.

The phone rang and it went on till... "You have reached the voice mail, please leave a message after the tone".....

Oh my sweet Smedly, NO!!!

i still couldn't get a chief judge !!! T_T

The next person came in my mind, DTM Sandra Shunmugam. I could't find her number , i Google her and eventually found her on Facebook. I prayed hard that her number is there. Amazingly it was there !! Ohh la la .

I called her up and she picked it up and she agreed to be the Chief Judge !!!

Mohan one of the contestants called to inform that he could not participate for the Internatinal speech contest as he was on pain killers and he was abit drowsy, however he said he will participate in the Table Topic Contest.

He even told me he will drive to the contest. Worrying something bad may happen, i contacted Ahmad, to fetch him there.

Safety comes first, Contest later.

I was on my way to the venue and suddenly, something struck me. There's gonna be a table topic contest.. where are the topics ???!!! The topics were originally prepared by the Chief Judge, Azizah Abu Hassan, ACB, CL.

She could not provide me the topics in time as she was not available @ the moment.

Now i am panic.

In the end, i had to outsourced the topics to a very kind person.

30 minutes, there could't be any more crazy surprises, could there be ?

hmm.. another bomb fell down on me soon. One of the judges called up and said __ could not make it in time.

i was like .... huh?! Am i striking lottery soon or what ?

30 minutes to find a judge who's available and experience in judging !!!

!!!! Holy Sweet Smedly Moly !!!! time is insanely running out !!!!

again, struggling out of the fallen rubbles, in the distance, i saw someone

DTM Selina from Johor , emits her vibrant aura of a Savior. I know i had to get to her, i just had to. I made my way there, crawling and i *held her hand* and asked her to become one of the judge, and she agreed. I was *delightedly* overjoyed . (imagine it, not visualize it pls).

That was the last of it. and thankfully it was.

15 minutes before the contest starts, i got the contestants together outside of the room and the draw lots was made with a set of poker cards of Ace of Spade to 10th of Spade.

Trivia :
Shivcharan Kaur asked for the order number 4 as it was believed to be a lucky number for Sikhs.
There were 4 guest. 2 of them were MMU Stundents, another one of them was DTM Sandra and another was DTM Selina.
About 90 % of the audience are either participants or role players.
There was 8 table topic speakers, when 7 of them left the room, the room looks empty.

I agreed it has been many week or many months since last meeting summary, well better late than never.

Work Work Work.. that's the life of a Peon, no life no time. :(

Anyway.....ahem.

The meeting was as usual @ Semabok Inn, Melaka, however the meeting room has been changed to the newer , classier, business class meeting room , ground floor. :)

Happiness short lived, it was only for that meeting only. Argh.. :(

The reason we was given this meeting room was because the human elevator was broken.

Ascending all the way to the fourth floor can be exhausting for some *ahem*. :S

It was colder than ever, the room was smaller, the air cond was bigger.

Henry Goh, CC was the Toastmaster of the Day.

There was no Guests , unfortunately.

He did a great job and still there's alot of room for improvement.

The crowd was small too, New Year mood was still with us. Oranges was served too. !

We only had 2 speakers, Ahmad, CC who did his 4th ACB project and TM Sharon Chiang who did her 8th CC project.

!!! Congratulations to both of them. !!!

Humor session was not there, unfortunately.

Table Topic Session was a 25 minutes long continuation of "finish the story" marathon regarding a murder and ended up as a possible zombie conducted by our beauty queen, Lena Foo, CC

General Evaluation was pretty quick, well done and presented by IPP of 08/09, Goh Guat Mui, ACB, CL

Melvin Chan, CC evaluated Sharon Chiang, and Ruby Yong, CC evaluated Ahmand, CC

Table topic evaluator was done by Joshua Ling, ACB, CL.

Grammarian was done by Jeniffer Lee, ACB, CL.

Ah Counter was done by Tirath , CTM/CC , a nightmare for some, a good laugh for some. *grins*

We even had an open discussion @ the end of the General Evaluation to further evaluate club matters.

After the meeting, was had an EXCO meeting and proceeded to McQueck Satay Celup for supper.

The District 51, Division A Humorous and Evaluation Contest.

Recently i was invited to the District 51, Division A Humorous and Evaluation Contest but unfortunately I left my ticket at home. Luckily for me, the "guard" has dozed off, which enabled me to sneak passed him and got myself a free seating.

zzzz...

Yeah.. i was happy, yet i have a very important mission.

The Contest was broken into 2 pieces.. erm i mean 2 sessions.

The first session is the humorous speech contest. The humorous contest consisted of 6 contestants, Mariana Pascal, Ahmad Yusof, Andrew Tan, Ariff, J.Kannan and TM Kumar.

I would say it's Deja Vu .This genre of the speech presented by each speaker in order of this contest with area A1 contest was entirely the same. It's scary.

In my Area A1 Humorous speech contest, the first speaker was a foreigner, Stefan Becker.

In this contest, the first speaker was Marinna Pascal, a Canadian.

Fair. Chances of them getting first slot is slim.

Since both are foreigners who have either gotten PR or Work Permit in Malaysia, it does make sense for them to talk something about Malaysia culture.

Stefan spoken about Malaysia way of life, and Marinna spoken about Manglish. Indirectly, they are talking about our culture.

Fair again, however it get really scary after this.

The rest of the speakers talked about relationship either between man and woman, or individual gender.

2 contest, 2 almost different set of speakers, but entirely same genre of topics.

Today’s event:

The Installation of Malacca Toastmasters Club Executive Committee is a yearly occasion. The 2009-2010 term starts from 1^st July 2009 – 30^th June 2010. In Toastmasters Club, the club EXCO changes every year providing leadership and communication opportunity to fellow members. In the Installation Ceremony, last year officers were discharged, and the new officers were inducted.

Malacca Toastmasters Club is part of the Toastmasters International with its headquarters located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, USA. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization, and was established on October 22, 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived, and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively. The organization now has over 235,000 members in 11,700clubs in 92 countries. Malacca Toastmasters Club is part of District 51 with over 300 clubs cover ing Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Malacca Toastmasters Club meets regularly giving everyone an opportunity to practice:

Conducting meetings
Giving Impromptu Speeches
Presenting Prepared Speeches
Offering Constructive Evaluation

In Toastmasters, members learn leadership skills by organizing and conducting meetings and by completing projects stated in the leadership manuals. Leadership projects address such skills as listening, planning, motivation, and team building and give members the opportunity to practice them. Just as Toastmasters learn to speak by speaking, they learn leadership by leading.

The success of individuals depends on communication. Individuals face an endless exchange of ideas, messages and information as they deal with one another. How well they connect and share their ideas with customers, clients, co-worker, family members, and friends can determine whether the individual succeed in life. Especially in the current economic crisis, good communication skills will give an added advantage to be employable in the job market.

KL Advanced Toastmasters Club

Malacca Toastmasters Club was invited to KL Advanced Toastmasters Club on the 22nd of August 2009. The clubbing... err i mean meeting was held at Chung Ling's Alumni , near Amcorp mall, PJ.
As the club name stated, Advanced, the club was somehow different and advance from the norm..

i was sceptic about this club as the word "advanced" frightens me. Thinking of my level of public speaking compared to the word advance, i wasn't wrong. This club is way advance than me.

Here and some of the differences that i had seen.

First of all, KL Advance Toastmasters had the Table Topic Session started first. In MTC, we had the project speakers started first.
KLAT practices Open evaluation and self evaluation, apart from speaker's evaluator's evaluation. This actually let attendees a chance to give a brief evaluation and at the end, the speaker will either defend him/herself or admit the evaluations from the floor.
The table topic evaluator has 10 minutes to do evaluation, our club only has 2-3 minutes.
Each best speaker/evaluator/table topic speaker was given a certificate !

The quality of speakers the club produced astonish me. As my club president said, Joshua Ling How Gin mentioned, one of the club members, TM Salley Cheah turn from a silent and quiet girl to a totally different person. Her speaking skills improved by leaps and bounds !

Moreover, the members speaking skills were extremely good too.

During the meeting, i noticed a few unique members too.

Here as some of the notable unique club members of KL Advance Toastmasters Club.

ACG, CL Bill Sim
He's the club's president and was the past president of Malacca Toastmasters Club. He's a familiar face among my club "senior" members but he was quite new to me. A very nice guy who shared a bottle of red wine with us. His daughter was pretty.

ACB, CL Chase Lee
He's the club's Vice President of Education and his command of language and pronunciation was unreal and excellent. I was fascinated by his evaluation as a grammarian that i did not notice he was doing cha cha at the same time.

CC, Lorna Fisher
She's from UK but was brought up in Australia and now, is the Vice President of Membership of KL Advance Toastmasters Club. I hardly get to see a foreigner as a local club member. She was friendly and nice to have a chat with as her English has a mixture of Australian / British English.

TM, Salley Cheah
From a shy and quiet girl to a lively and exciting girl, Toastmasters sure changed her alot. She's pretty too :).

DTM, Sandrasegaran
The presence of this one man surprises me. He's "the" Toastmasters Leadership Institute Chairman of District 51. The sheer amount of shiny pins on his easily be mistaken as a golden vest. His face reminds me of a Bollywood actor.

CTM, CL Arvim Sriram
He's the Toastmaster of the Evening, despite his appearance, he did his role very professionally. He actually put me to shame. I am really impressed with him. He's one of my most favorite toastmaster from KL Advance Toastmasters Club.

Recently, on the 20th of August, Malacca Toastmasters Club had it's Club level humorous speech and speech evaluation contest.

Among the guests were some lovely toastmasters from JB Toastmasters Club.

The contest was chaired by ATMB, Jeffery Lee.

We had alot of laughter in the humorous speech contest, and we had some good lessons from the evaluators as well.

The winner for speech evaluator was ACB, CL Goh Guat Mui and the 1st runner up was DTM, Audrey Lim.

The winner for Humorous speech was DTM, Audrey Lim. and the 1st runner up is TM, Ahmad Yusof.

Though i did not win, i tried my best to evaluate Dr. Soe Win on his speech, "Health is Wealth".

The 1st meeting of August

Good day guys,

On the 6th of August, our club had another exciting meeting.

The beautiful and lovely, CC, Lena Foo was the Toastmaster of the Evening.

2 new members were inducted by me, a first timer for VPM !

However, i missed out appointing their mentor during the induction.

Moving on to the project speakers,

TM Pay Fong did her CC Project 3, The Value of Money. It was good and well done.

TM Ahmad did his CC Project 9 on No Pain No Gain. Well done too!

CC, CL Azizah told a folk tale of the ugly duckling . It was cute the way she played with vocal variety.

Congratulations to all project speakers !

Our club president CC, CL Joshua Ling presented information on the Distinguished Club Program.

It is a well presented presentation and useful information of the members and the guests.

The humor master was lead by DTM Shiv
we had some good laugh, however time is short, jokes were short and we moved on to the Table Topic session.

The Table Topic session for this meeting revolved around numbers where the members need to throw 5 dice, the total number will be the age of the person. Odd number is for male, and even for female.

It was very funny too .

We had a tough word of the day which is coerce

which means:

1 : to restrain or dominate by force- coerce the irreligious
2 : to compel to an act or choice -coerced into agreeing
3 : to achieve by force or threat- coerce compliance

It was quite hard as no one managed to use the word .

The meeting went on smoothly and was close by the me, "The VPM" after a short note on Smedley Award.

I set a target of 10 members and we are now soon to be 6 new members already :) 4 more to go, 3 more meetings to come. Can we do it, YES WE CAN ! * Fingers Crossed*

Greetings! Today marks officially the first day for the new EXCO to assume as club officers for the Malacca Toastmasters Club
for the 2009- 2010 term. First of all, I would like to congratulate ACB Goh Guat Mui and her EXCO team last year for the selfless
service leading the club to attain the President Distinguished Club Award. Personally I would like to thank ACB Guat Mui for
helping to ensure a smooth transition for the new EXCO to take office.

I would like to express gratitude and appreciation for the support extended to the new EXCO team for the past few weeks
from fellow members. Working together, I'm very sure that we can bring our club to another successful year.

On a fine Saturday morning in June 2009,a few of our club members went back to school...

Not as students,not as teachers but on a Toastmasters mission.Yes indeed we were all set to embark on a journey of sharing YLP with a group of bright and receptive teenaged boys and girls (secondary 3 to 5)-students of MHS.

The YLP is a basic training programme for the students to experience Communication & Leadership skills mainly in these areas:

Overcome nervousness when speaking before an audience

Organize thoughts and ideas for better communication and speech delivery

Develop better listening skills

To learn to offer advice in a relevant and tactful manner

To participate in discussions and meetings as leaders and team players

Everyone had loads of fun .The sessions included slide presentations,demo speakers ,demo evaluators,prepared speeches,video clips,lively songs,creative story telling ,impromptu speaking and mindmapping teamwork.

The whole event ended with a magical transformation.Yes the students did an incredible ‘showcase your skills’ session for parents and teachers and our toastmasters.The prepared speech and table topics contests were of a commendable standard after just about 2 days of training.Everyone had a nostalgic moment singing the goodbye songs at the close.Thank you Kamala –You made it happen!

4th June meeting Summary

16th April meeting Summary
Congratulation to G.Mohan for his CC, he’s now the brand new CC of our club and he was the Toastmaster of the Evening for the 1st meeting of June 2009, this was indeed his first time as the toastmaster of the evening.
We had 4 project speakers that night, there were Shima TM, Ahmad TM, Azizah Abu Hassan, CC,CL and Capt Khalid. They presented very well, only slightly short and fast.
Capt Khalid gave an entertaining speech on Bermuda Triangle, he really did brought me through a journey of mystery and fantasies. Azizah Abu Hassan, CC, CL did a speech on her speaker award. Ahmad TM, gave a speech on how to help a choking victim which was good to know which I don’t. Shima TM, did a speech on title, I Wonder It Is So True.
When the project speeches were over, the humor master took over, although there were only 3 jokes mentioned, if I remember correctly, each joke were quite long, there were laughter and a lot fun .
Next, we had the table topic session which was conducted by William Tay, TM. In our club, is natural that each table topic session is as creative as the last, this time, there was no exception.
Table topic session started off with a short paragraph, read by the table topic master himself. He then chose a few volunteers to continue the story with a given word handpicked by the participants themselves. The story itself did not make sense, but we did have a lot of ooohhh and ahhhh as the story turns out to be quite crazy.
Finally, evaluation was headed by Jane Yeo, TM. Some of the comments mentioned are too cold compared to last meeting, it was too hot. I myself was the table topic evaluator. Mak Chee Kin, CC, CL did an unusual evaluation as the ah-countant by doing it in his way. Very unique I must say.
There were fun and laughter all the way, everyone had a wonderful time.
At approximately 9:40pm, the meeting was dismissed.
The next meeting will on 18-June 2009. Till then, see you guys there !

16th April meeting Summary

The meeting started on time and soon we were in the project speakers. There were a lot of guests and they were pretty…. *cough*. .*blushing*

TM Zaw Tun attempted his first maiden speech, the ice breaker with the title Lime Juice. The speech was ended with a short song; I was impressed as for the first CC project. Not many will end a speech with a song or a poem. Bravo!!

TM Lai Kim Piew attempted his first maiden speech too. It was an impromptu speech as he was requested to do a speech a few hours earlier due to a shortage of speakers. Although he did it in 7 minutes, it was a very good speech. Bravo!!

Our last speaker of the day was TM Chan Pei Fong, a lovely and cheerful lady attempted the speech, Martial Arts. She did it flawlessly with some demonstration of kicks and punches. I learned to never judge a book by a cover as she has a hidden weapon despite her looks.

After the project speeches, it was time for Humor Master’s Joke presented by a first timer TM William Tay. He talked about random jokes regarding husband and wife or wife(s). :D it was funny as ever. I concluded the table topic with a statement that nuns and monks were happier than a married couple.

CC, CL Ling How Gin was the table topic master. His topic was based on reporter reporting news based on a situation given. It was a tough one and a funny too. I would say it was a humorous table topic session. Most of the news reported was absurd and funny. We had a good laugh too.

After all the evaluation, the meeting ended very fast. It was only slightly after 9:30pm when it ended. This was very good news as we have people like me, flying to Kuching 2009 Convention the next day!
